EcoPeace Environmental Peacemaking in the Middle East June 30, 2010 Foundation De Levante organizes, together with Friends of the Earth Middle East (FoEME), three meetings around this special organization. In the morning FoEME will give a lecture at UNESCO-IHE in Delft. In the afternoon a conference for professionals will follow at Felix Meritis in Amsterdam. In the evening, again at Felix Meritis, a presentation will be given for the general public.

Ruud Schotting (Sultan Qaboos Chair of Quantitative Water Management), Munqeth Mehyar (Amman, Jordan), Nader Khateb (Bethlehem, Palestine) en Mira Edelstein (Tel Aviv, Israel) of FoEME will present their successful “Environmental Peacemaking projects. The Jordan River Rehabilitation will be the main topic. Jordan River Rehabilitation The Jordan River once carried an average of 1.3 billion m3 of fresh water to the Dead Sea annually. Today this figure has been reduced to just 20 – 30 million m3 per year due to the diversion of 98% of the River's flow by Israel, Jordan and Syria.
