Hulda Festival Amsterdam May 8 - September 27, 2009
Hulda Festival, A Journey into Art and Science The Hulda Festival features events celebrating the coalescence of arts and sciences around Hulda, the 100-year old sailing boat of the Turkish-Swedish artist Ilhan Koman (Edirne 1921 - Stockholm 1986). From March 2009 until November 2010 the Hulda Festival is visiting Stockholm, Amsterdam, Antwerp, Bordeaux, Lisbon, Barcelona, Naples, Valetta, Thessalonica and Istanbul. The festival benefits from the active partnership of some of the most prestigious art or science institutions based in these 10 cities. The Hulda is docked at the Museum Harbor, next to NEMO and can be visited from May 8 - May 17 from 10:00 - 17:00. Free entry. Workshops From 8 - 17 May, Amsterdam will be the first port of call in this European tour, with De Levante as official partner. The Hulda will dock in the Museumhaven next to NEMO. On the Hulda, there is an exhibition of the work of İlhan Koman. In cooperation with i.e. NEMO (www.e-nemo.nl) , De Levante will organise workshops and other activities for young people. The exhibition on the Hulda and the workshops emphasize the links between Leonardo da Vinci and İlhan Koman, and between Turkish, Iranian and Arab patterns and M.C. Escher. Read more... Koman Foundation The İlhan Koman Foundation for Arts & Cultures was founded in 1999 by friends and relatives of the Turkish-Swedish artist İlhan Koman (1921-1986). The Foundation concentrates on three issues, developed from the works in the legacy of İlhan Koman. In the first place, the Koman Foundation encourages arts in the public space through, among others, direct support in the realisation of sculptures in public areas. Secondly, the Koman Foundation supports projects that connect art and science and promote interdisciplinary collaboration. Thirdly, the Koman Foundation wishes to promote exchanges within Europe in terms of social-cultural projects related to visual art and access to art, culture and technology. European The Hulda festival is part of the official program ‘Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture' and ‘Season of Turkish Culture in France', developed as a collaboration between the Turkish and the French government.
